About

“As a vocal soloist, Miha Brkinjač was in no way inferior to the chief conductor and his orchestra in terms of virtuosity, casualness and joie de vivre.”

Miha Brkinjač was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. After taking first vocal lessons in his hometown of Ljubljana under Prof. Alenka Slokar Bajc, he continued his studies at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin under Prof.Dr. Michail Lanskoi.

Since the beginning of the season 2022/2023 Miha is a member of the opera studio Niederrhein at the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach.

He worked with and participated in masterclasses with Wolfram Rieger, Peter Berne, Hedwig Fassbender, Rene Massis, Steffan Schleiermacher, Antonio Lemmo among others.

His recent operatic roles include Valentin in Gounod’s Margarethe (Faust), Marullo in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Don Giovanni in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Onegin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Ferryman in Britten’s Curlew River and The Venetian in Rimski-Korsakov’s Sadko. He is also an active concert and recital singer in Germany and Slovenia with a special affection for a German, Russian and Slovenian art song repertoire and chanson.

Along with his operatic activity, Miha is also active as an actor in Slovenia and Germany. A highlight of his acting activity is the founding of the theatre ensemble “KUD Škofljica”, with which he celebrated numerous successes on stages all over Slovenia. In 2017 he was awarded the “Best Actor / Comedian 2017” award for the role of Jean in the play “Pridi gola na večerjo / Pyjama pour six” by Marc Camoletti at the Festival of Comedy Pekre 2017, Slovenia.

For his artistic work in the recent years, Miha has been awarded scholarships by Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfond, Ottilie-Selbach-Redlobs Stiftung, Lucia-Loeser Stiftung and the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Slovenia.

Miha Brkinjač was only on stage for a short time as the jealous cook’s husband, but he left a very strong mark on the performance. He completely took over the space and the action on stage. He spoke so genuinely, vividly, juicy and relaxed that we have to admit that he is a true master of expression, and he moved with such agility and vivacity that he was extremely convincing and refined in his acting interpretation. He did not stop acting even when the curtain fell, and even there he added his icing on the cake.
